Convention Chronicles #1
The Realm of the False Heroes
Your party gets yanked out of the campaign and dumped into a comic convention where nobody believes they’re real heroes. No working spells. No hit points. Just foam swords, a cosplay tournament, and one very long road home. A free, comedic Level 9 one-shot that drops into any 5e table.
They were legends. Here, they’re three nerds in weird armour.
A shattered amulet spits the party out into Hall H of the biggest convention in the multiverse. Their enchanted gear? Now obviously foam props. Their reputation? Zero. To get home they’ll have to do the unthinkable — win the Tri-Fandom Cosplay Tournament, out-hype a crew of insufferable rivals called Team Rules Lawyer, and survive whatever’s waiting on the main stage.
Hype, not HP
You can’t stab your way out of a convention. Every encounter is won by working the crowd. Track Hype instead of hit points — run out and you’re booed off the floor, not killed. Nobody dies. Everybody’s embarrassed.
The Convention Curse
Your +3 Vorpal Sword is now a foam LARP blade. Your spellbook is a con programme. The Curse re-flavours every item on your sheet into glorious tat — the funnier the loadout, the more the crowd loves it.
Win the Crowd
Three fandom Zones, a pile of side quests, and one Grand Finale. Collect Tokens, bank Hype, and earn your ticket home — all while a rival crew does everything they can to upstage you.
A Distant Galaxy
A shooting-gallery corridor crawling with space-troopers. Dodge the foam-dart “return fire” and light up the targets before the Rivals do.
The Arcade Floor
High-score machines, a dance-off pad, and a test-your-strength hammer. Button-mashing, rhythm-checking, muscle-flexing pandemonium.
The Main Stage
Improv panels, in-character debate, and a live performance. The heroes’ actual home turf — if the Rivals don’t steal the spotlight first.
Side Quests
Three optional detours — a VR Booth that glitches out, a rigged Claw Machine, and a Debate Club showdown — each with its own loot and its own way for the Rivals to cheat.
Six Rival Stat Blocks
Every member of Team Rules Lawyer comes fully statted, with signature “Rival Play” interference and the exact terrible thing they shout when they use it.
Printable Handouts
Read-aloud boxes throughout, a Grand Finale battle map, an arena terrain cut-out sheet, and the convention flyer — all print-ready at the back.
The thing on the stage
The Announcer calls the finals. The lights drop. And the villain who banished you in the first place struts out under the spotlight in the best costume of the whole convention. Beat him at his own game — win the crowd, win the tournament, win your way home. Bring foam.
Download it. It’s completely free.
