Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji plucks the heartsrings of all Japanese, poets to peasants.
For us it had been an exercise in Zen; the mountain, all 3200m of it,
is right in front of me but I cannot see it– the clouds are blocking
all sight. We can only feel for it, and by doing so come to terms with
the imperminance of our own lives. Only Fuji will remain.
This photo is actually a poster in the mountain visitor center, of
what we should be able to see. Funny thing playing hide and seek with
a trillion ton mountain.
Visiting this indepth look at Tokyo over the centuries is a great way
to spend a wet day.
Our mental historical maps get changed forever
Read MoreA visit to the famous Tokyo fish market requires one to get out of
bed at a very unholy hour (5am).
The chaos of the market is perfectly balanced by visiting a tiny local
sushi resturant for breakfast. The master slices up the days catch and
within minutes a full selection awaits you. Then, chopsticks in hand,
you taste some of the finest sushi in the world, washed down by hot
green tea.
Simply divine.
Cesca enjoyed it too once we got across the language barrier that she
is allergic to squid. I ate it for her and also the sea urchin roll.
I have received a lot of nice comments regarding the site theme update and overhaul – Thanks!
Some have also asked a few questions so I will answer them in this post:
Japan’s “Electric City” in the heart of Tokyo is possibly the geeks
idea of heaven. A rich geek that is. I was drawn to this brilliant
computer programable Tachykoma; the cute voiced spider-tanks from
Ghost in the Shell.
Actually, for me it was a kind of hell; I know all these things, but
can’t afford any of them. Surely a programable toy tank from an
obscure Japanese cartoon series is vital, no?
Basho
Boy are they not kidding! China has a habit of naming things in very
grand terms, but this one was worth the effort and spot on.
One amazing day climbing this monster for fours hours, and I do mean
climbing — as the wall is very tumble-down and steep!
A fitting way to round off any visit to China!
