Last night I went to The Great British Beer Festival at Earls Court. What?
The Great British Beer Festival is being held at Earls Court this year in a huge showcase of beers and ales in London. There will be pints aplenty and more than enough to quench your thirst this summer, with varieties from all over the world. Cheers.
The Biggest Pub in the World
Also known as the Biggest Pub in the World the Great British Beer Festival features a wide selection of beers, ciders, perries, ales and lagers from the UK and abroad. Visitors can sample all manner of beverages in a festive, bubbly atmosphere. Beer fans will be out in force to try something new or rediscover an old favourite at one of the biggest events of its kind in the world, where over 300,000 pints are expected to be pulled.
Basically any excuse to go out and get right pissed on beer and real ales! Great!
A group of my old school friends go out once a month to visit some pubs and chew the fat over old times and new goings on, so we arranged to meet up here this month. I was warned that the queues were large and that it was “hat day”.
I had no idea.
Firstly, the queue was 100m long! No joke:
Secondly, there is Paul. Now Paul is one of those amazing people that is totally capable of anything. He has a level of will that would make the most ardent confidence expert to look nervous. Hense, when he told me that he planned to win the “Hat of the day” award I knew he wasn’t joking. When I saw him for the first moments, only my 15 years long association with the man prevented me from looking supprised at him wearing this:
It is two bits of pink packing foam stitched together into a hat with large foam ears, a bike tire around the resulting shape and a large, dangling, foam snake tucked into the front. A snake that he used to great effect by bumping it into people. He wore the whole thing with such confidence that he immediately won the “hat of the day.” Walking around with him was great fun because of all the comments left in his wake:
“What the fuck was that!?”
“wow look at that hat!”
etc. Also, the entire night, people came up to him and they would say one of the following:
“HAT!” These were all men.
“What is it?” These were all women. Paul used the ice breaker to chat up many ladies!
Anyway, the night was great fun. The beers were all very interesting and I was soon quite drunk. Whitesnake played live (which is surreal, just like the rest of the night!) and catching up with all my old friends was brilliant. The only beer I can remember the name of was “cock and hoop”, which was very nice. After that it was a little bit of a blur!
Here is Colin in the hat as well:
That image is hillarious! Look at his expression! hehe
Anyway, I do recomend you all go next year!
