As always the today is the day we remem­ber the war dead and those who fought to bring my coun­try safe out of the shadow of tyranny

One such per­son was my Grand­father Watkins. He was a bomber pilot in Africa, tak­ing on the mighty hordes of the Tank com­mander Rom­mel and his actions are told in part in this book:

He was the RAF box­ing cham­pion and after the war retired to run a post office. He died when I was 7 and was a well loved and kind man.

My other Grand­father, Jack Bell was an engin­eer who made the very planes that defen­ded this coun­try. He worked hard to play his part in the war effort and he too sur­vived and retired down to Devon. He was an hon­oured and well loved man and died shortly after his 60th wed­ding anniversary at the age of 84.
