Electrowerkz is best described in a Gary Busey type voice as follows:
“OUTSTANDING!”
The Electrowerkz club is nestled in what can only be described as an abandoned warehouse look alike. The club is a world famous alternate/Goth/call-it-what-you-will venue hidden down a back alley behind The Angel tube station in the heart of London.
My first experience there was last year when my best man hosted the “day part” of my stag night at the venue.
Since that day I have been hooked and have become a regular on Tuesday nights and even a member of the somewhat fearsome Firefight Dark Angels local team.
The venue spans three large floors of differing types and the adjoining stairs. Games are often staged over all three floors or just on one. Average nights at Electro’ are typified with the following games:
Battlefield. Take and hold two out of the three floors.
Black Hawk Down. One small team defends the “Crows Nest”.
Uncle Micks Drug Bust. One small team defends a “stash”.
Speedball. Played on just one floor, objective to hold the center mesh nest.
The facilities of Electro’ are very good. Renting, charging, BB’s, full bar, proper toilets, large (safe) safe area are all available.
Electro does have a few idiosyncrasies and unusual aspects, which lend to its special status. Some examples:
1. Full face is demanded. The games are mostly full auto and many people (myself included) have all their weapons firing at 320 fps. Without proper face protection the risk is on your own head.
2. Following on from that, the range of battle is often 3ft. At this range you will get “laced” and have some nice bruises to take home.
3. Not taking your hits is an offence second only to blind firing at this venue. I seriously suggest that you don’t do either or your £20 will be lost and you sent home.
4. Many of the players are off duty policemen. Loose your temper here and lamp someone and you may well be arrested.
5. I have been to two strange nights. The first had a naked model photoshoot going on in the safe zone (no shit), the second had a Channel 4 film crew doing interviews regarding the VCR.
6. The local team; The Dark Angels are all quite good and have some prodigious firepower (semi auto 6 shot moscart launcher for example).
All in all, the best thing I can say about Electro’ is that it is bar none the very best training in CQB you can get outside expensive specialist courses.
